5Terrific pair of sunglasses!  Jun 07, 2011
By Vishal Kasliwal
This review is for the Persol 2720S 95/24 - black frame with photochromatic-polarized yellow-green lenses, and the 24/47 - havana frame with polarized brown lenses. Like the other Persol sunglasses that I have, these sunglasses are very stylish and cool looking with the trademark Persol arrow on the temple. The frame is well-made and feels durable with solid metal hinges and the standard Persol Meflecto system that ensures a good fit on most faces The plastic is a subdued shiny black that feels warm to the touch. The 2720S come in two sizes - 57mm and 60mm. I feel that the 60mm size would work best for most faces - get the 57mm only if you have a thin face.
The 95/24 lenses are absolutely lovely with a heavier polarization than most light-tinted sunglasses offer - I was pleasantly surprised just how well these sunglasses cut out glare given the light tint color. Usually, lighter tinted glasses have weaker polarization so Persol must have pulled out all the stops on the glass here. Speaking of which, as is usual with Persol, the lenses are glass, not polycarbonate. They have noticeably higher acutance than my polycarbonate Ray-Banss. The lenses are photochromatic which is very very nice. The change in transmission is very well controlled and transitions seem to occur rapidly as one steps out into the sun from indoors. On the whole, I feel that photochromatic lenses are definitely more desirable than gradient lenses, achieving the same result (being able to wear them in lower light conditions, eg. shade, and still see the ground) without loosing out in harsh, strong sunlight. The tinting on these lenses is very unusual - they're a light yellowish-green. It takes a little getting used to, but once the eyes are adapted to the tinting, they work very well at enhancing colors such as the reds and oranges while still making foliage look very pretty. The tinting may not be acceptable to some people, so it's advisable to buy them in store where they can be tried out first.
The only thing I'm not thrilled about is the case that these sunglasses come with - it is rigid and solid with a nice magnetic clasp. However, it is bulky and I can't imagine putting the case in my pocket. While I'm sure the case is excellent protection for these sunglasses, making it more convenient to carry around would have been nicer.
All said and done, these are a lovely pair of sunglasses.
The 24/47 lenses are just as good as the 95/24 lenses so I won't repeat what I've already said above. Note that these are just polarized, not photochromatic-polarized. The brown tinting is very nice - it's closer to neutral than Ray-Ban brown so one doesn't get as much 'sepia tone', but warm colors are still nicely enhanced.
I'd say that if it's your first pair of Persols, get just Polarized ones. Generally the tinting is more neutral and usual. For a second or third pair, adding in the photochromatism is a great idea.

5Feel Like James Bond!  May 04, 2007
By Michael B. Murray "Classy Connoisseur"
These glasses will make you feel like James Bond. They are the perfect mix of elegance and sophistication. Worth any price!

5Like Peering Through a New Set of Eyes  Jan 05, 2012
By Brandon Nathe
It's tough for me to find shades that fit my smallish head. But when I slip these babies on, it feels like I'm lifting that dark cloak, the cloud that's been obscuring me from everything I've ever truly wanted. I feel like the damn terminator in these things. As in, I will terminate that work assignment or I will terminate that pregnancy. They are polarized, which is also good for fly fishing, I'm told.

5Very Fine Glasses  Dec 17, 2011
By Profguy
I don't usually review something until I've had it at least a few weeks, but I find these an exceptional pair of sunglasses. And though they're fairly expensive I think they're worth the money. I purchased the "Havana Crystal green"/tortoise and green with plain, not polarized (which tend to tire my eyes quickly), lenses. The glasses fit my average shape/size head (I'm a 6' 200lb guy) just fine. I wore them driving and walking the dog on a very cloudy day and saw fine through them in both instances. I also wore them on a brighter day and they did the job equally well. They look good with casual (e.g. walk the dog in the woods) clothes and dress up (e.g. dinner in town) clothes. They also work with a cap or a fancier lid like a fedora. So although the design is "classy" it can be dressed down and still look great and fit in. I should also add that I own a pair of "original" or "vintage" Persol's and though I'm sure there are differences in construction and materials - I have no complaints about the construction and materials in the new ones. Finally, I can never quite figure out the whole "60mm" vs. "57mm" measurement thing and got the 60. I suppose if you're a woman looking at these (and they'll do nicely I believe), go with the 57!
It's not a complaint, but like one reviewer said, the case they come in is way too big (about the size of the digital clock some people keep near their beds) but I throw the glasses in one of those microfiber bags and also have a hard rubber, zipper case to protect them when traveling, etc.

3Nice looking, but clunky  Aug 10, 2010
By Max Ellithorpe
I purchased these sunglasses after seeing them in James Bond. Sure, they're cool looking but they are large and somewhat clunky. Buying sunglasses online is not a good idea, as it's best to try them on in person.
